Task

The Reblossom Art Exhibit is a unique event that celebrates women who have overcome breast cancer. It is held in New York City and is part of a book launch commemorating the strength and resilience of these women. As a visual designer, I was tasked with creating a website that would effectively promote this art exhibit, provide information about the event, and engage visitors emotionally while maintaining a sense of hope and celebration.

Goal

The Reblossom website successfully combined aesthetics and functionality to create a powerful and emotional digital experience. It effectively promoted the event, celebrated the survivors, and supported the book launch, all while engaging the audience on an emotional level. This project reinforced the idea that design can be a powerful tool for conveying meaningful messages and connecting with an audience on a profound level.

Scope of Work

I tailored my approach to meticulously structure and visually enhance the site. Every element was curated to honor survivor narratives and artwork, delivering an immersive digital experience.

Process

Audience Analysis

With access to the Reblossom book, which detailed stories of women overcoming and thriving through breast cancer, I had a profound resource for understanding the emotional journeys and experiences of the target audience.

“I have made a lot of changes. I cut negativity out of my life. I see the bigger picture now and no longer sweat the small stuff.”

‐Nichelle

“These pictures showed me how far I have come, how much I have progressed, and how beautiful my scars look.”

‐Blanca

“We are redefining our own beauty. I hope other women can recognize themselves in our stories and realize they are not all alone.”

‐Dowry

“If I could be a part of a project that helps other women and be a part of someone else’s bright side, it would mean the world to me.”

‐Kim

“Getting out of my comfort zone and being vulnerable in front of the camera made me feel stronger. I did something I'd never done before.”

‐Valerie

“I‘ve always loved being around flowers, especially while trying to heal. I hope this project helps normalize more types of bodies.”

‐Bianca

Wireframes

Wireframing played a crucial role in structuring the website layout and defining the user experience. Given the emotionally charged nature of the content, it was essential to create a layout that was intuitive, empathetic, and engaging.

Moodboard

This served as a visual reference point, capturing the essence, tone, and aesthetic direction of the site. Drawing inspiration from the overarching theme of resilience and renewal, the moodboard curated a cohesive visual language.

Design

Color & Typography

The website features a striking palette of vibrant magenta contrasted with clean white. The elegant serif typeface, borrowed directly from the book, is accompanied by a modern sans-serif font ensures readability on the page.

Grid

The site utilizes a 1920px 12-column grid system, enabling the integration of large-scale images and elements across the page. This allows ample room for an immersive experience.

Solution

Homepage

The final design successfully ticks the boxes of blending survivor stories, artwork, and opportunities to purchase the accompanying book elegantly. The site invites users to immerse themselves in a celebration of resilience and empowerment.
